Quick Summary

Block Contactor ABB 1SBL171034R8001 is a compact, three-pole switch designed for reliable power control in industrial automation, motor starters, and machine panels. Engineers frequently struggle with space constraints, coil voltage compatibility, and the need to integrate add-on accessories without compromising uptime. This device meets CE conformity and UL/CSA safety standards and provides IP20 protection for both coil and main terminals, reducing panel risk and maintenance intervals. Built on ABB’s AF platform, it offers easy TH35 DIN-rail mounting, screw-terminal connection, and compatibility with add-on auxiliary contact blocks to scale logic without rewiring, for remote signaling interfaces and on-site diagnostics with standard accessories.

The AFC-based block contactor design delivers efficient power switching with a compact footprint, enabling denser panel layouts and reduced cabinet depth. Feature → Business Impact → Application: Three main NO contacts and a single NC auxiliary contact provide reliable signaling for interlocks and control logic, enabling safer motor start/stop sequences in conveyors and packaging lines. This translates to measurable downtime reduction and improved process uptime in manufacturing cells. Feature → Application: Coil voltage of 220–230 V AC at 50 Hz or 230–240 V AC at 60 Hz covers global electrical standards, simplifying regional procurement while maintaining consistent performance. Feature → Business Impact → Application: DIN rail mounting TH35-15 or TH35-7.5 plus screw-terminal connections streamline installation, cut wiring time by up to 30%, and improve maintenance accessibility in control panels. Feature → Application: Rated AC-3 and AC-1 currents (IE up to 30 A AC-1, 18 A AC-3 at higher voltages) support a wide range of motor loads and contactor duties, enabling scalable machine design without over-specification. Feature → Business Impact: Extendable with add-on auxiliary contact blocks and a broad accessory ecosystem reduces lifecycle costs by enabling future control logic expansions without a full hardware swap. Feature → Application: IP20 protection and robust environmental ratings support reliable operation in panel enclosures and service bays, reducing contamination risk and traceability concerns in electrical installations. Feature → Application: Compliance to IEC/EN 60947-1, IEC/EN 60947-4-1, UL 60947-4-1 and related standards ensures regulatory alignment across industries, facilitating supplier qualification and audit readiness. Note: Real-world installation benefits include secure screw-terminals, straightforward wiring, and predictable coil performance across 50/60 Hz networks.

FAQs

Install the unit on a TH35-15 or TH35-7.5 DIN rail, ensuring a snug fit and proper alignment. Use the provided mounting options and torque the main circuit terminals to 1.5 N·m and auxiliary/control terminals to 1.2 N·m. For panel mounting, two M4 screws are required. Confirm IP20 protection is maintained and route conductors neatly to minimize heat buildup.
The coil is rated for 220–230 V AC at 50 Hz or 230–240 V AC at 60 Hz. The control circuit frequency matches the supply frequency, i.e., 50 Hz or 60 Hz, ensuring stable coil performance across regions without requiring a separate transformer.
Yes. For AC-3 at 690 V, the rated operational current Ie is 10.5 A, with power handling suitable for up to 9 kW depending on the exact line voltage. It is designed for heavy-duty switching with 3 main NO contacts and a built-in 1 NC auxiliary contact, making it appropriate for motor start/stop sequences.
The AFC contactor family supports add-on auxiliary contact blocks and a wide range of accessories. You can extend control functionality with compatible auxiliary blocks to suit interlock, signaling, or remote control needs, without rewiring the entire panel. This enables scalable control logic as your system evolves.
It complies with IEC/EN 60947-1 and IEC/EN 60947-4-1, UL 60947-4-1, and CSA C22.2 No. 60947-4-1, with CE declarations and additional certifications such as CB, BV, DNV, and RINA listed in the product data. These certifications support global procurement, safety auditing, and regulatory compliance for electrical panels and machinery.
