AF technology delivers a broad input voltage window that tolerates 24–60 V AC and 20–60 V DC, reducing control circuit outages when supply voltage fluctuates in harsh environments. This translates to fewer nuisance trips and lower maintenance costs in high-variability networks, making the device ideal for pumps and conveyors in demanding industrial settings. Three main contacts provide robust motor switching for 18.5 kW loads at 400 V AC (AC-3) and up to 50 A AC-1 at high voltages, while screw terminals simplify field wiring and ensure reliable, vibration-resistant connections in vibration-prone installations. The block design also enables straightforward add-on auxiliary contact blocks for expanded control logic, enabling scalable automation without a full redesign. Built-in surge protection helps protect downstream circuits from transient spikes, reducing failures and extending the life of contactors, relays, and controllers. For panel builders, this reduces the need for separate protective gear, cutting bill of materials and installation time. DIN rail mounting (TH35-15 or TH35-7.5) provides quick, space-efficient installation in control panels, and supports accessory expansion with AF family add-ons, allowing scalable control architectures. Designed for IP20 protection, RoHS/REACH compliant, and featuring low coil power loss (2.4 W AC-1 per pole; 1.3 W AC-3 per pole), the device minimizes heat and energy waste even in continuous operation, delivering improved energy efficiency and safer panels in industrial environments.

FAQs
The contactor supports DIN rail mounting on TH35-15 or TH35-7.5 rails and can be mechanically secured with 2 x M4 screws (not supplied). This makes it straightforward to integrate into standard control panels while preserving space and ensuring secure operation in vibration-prone environments.
Main circuit rated up to 690 V with AC-1 current up to 50 A and AC-3 up to 38 A at typical 415–690 V ranges. The device provides 18.5 kW at AC-3 for common industrial motors and supports a wide control voltage range of 24–60 V AC/50/60 Hz or 20–60 V DC, enabling operation across variable supply conditions.
Yes. It carries UL/CSA listings and IEC 60947-4-1 compliance, with CE and other regional declarations, ensuring regulatory alignment for global installations. This helps streamline procurement, installation, and maintenance across diverse markets while meeting safety and performance requirements.
The AF family supports add-on auxiliary contact blocks to extend control logic. Its screw terminals and DIN-rail mounting are compatible with standard enclosure wiring, and ABB provides installation instructions AF(C)09... AF38(Z)(B) accessories for extended functionality, enabling scalable, modular control architectures without redesign.
With built-in surge protection, low coil power loss (2.4 W AC-1 per pole; 1.3 W AC-3 per pole), and AF voltage tolerance, the device reduces heat generation and energy waste, improving panel efficiency and uptime. This translates to lower lifecycle costs, fewer replacements, and more predictable performance in demanding industrial environments.
