Quick Summary

ABB AFC40-30-11-51 Contactor enables reliable 3-pole control of power circuits up to 18.5 kW at 400 V AC (AC-3). It is designed for motor and drive applications in industrial environments where compact, robust switching is essential. Engineers often contend with mismatched coil voltages, limited accessory ecosystems, and space-constrained control panels; this device addresses those challenges with a defined coil range (400–415 V AC 50 Hz / 480 V AC 60 Hz), a built-in NO + NC auxiliary contact, and a compact block design. The AFC40 platform carries IEC/EN 60947-4-1, UL 60947-4-1 and CSA C22.2 conformance, plus CE listings that simplify global procurement. Its DIN-rail mounting and scalable accessories translate to lower installation risk, faster commissioning, and improved maintenance planning for panel builders and system integrators.

FAQs

The AFC40-30-11-51 is designed for TH35-15 or TH35-7.5 DIN rails. Wire the Main Circuit with rigid or flexible conductors within 1/2x sizes up to 35 mm² and connect the Auxiliary Circuit via suitable ferrule or rigid leads as specified. Use the recommended 4 N·m tightening torque on the main terminals and ensure IP20 protection on coil and auxiliary terminals during installation.
Coil options are 400–415 V AC at 50 Hz and 480 V AC at 60 Hz. This yields compatible actuation for common European and North American control circuits. Coil consumption values, including pull-in and holding power, influence switching speed and energy usage, contributing to reliable operation without excessive heat in the control cabinet.
Yes. The device is rated for AC-3 operation at 415/440/690 V and provides up to 22 kW AC-3 (depending on voltage), with a 70 A AC-1 / 40 A AC-3 at various temperatures. This makes it well-suited for motor switching, starting and stopping sequences in industrial drives while maintaining safe, efficient performance.
The AFC40-30-11-51 carries IEC/EN 60947-4-1, UL 60947-4-1, CSA C22.2 No. 60947-4-1, and related CE listings, with additional declarations such as UL 60335-2-40 conformity. These certifications support global procurement, cross-border use, and regulatory compliance for electrical equipment in commercial and industrial settings.
The integrated NO/NC auxiliary contact simplifies logic and feedback wiring, reducing panel complexity and installation time. Its extendable accessory options enable scalable control without buying new devices. Combined with long-term reliability and standardization across ABB AFC contactors, this translates to lower maintenance costs, faster upfits, and improved uptime in production lines.
