FAQs
The AF140-30-22-42 uses a 3-pole main circuit with a double clamp terminal system. Connect the three main conductors to the rated 10-70 mm² flexible or 10-95 mm² rigid copper cables per the datasheet. Auxiliary contacts (2 NO/2 NC) wire into the control circuit, and follow torque specs (main circuit 8 N·m, auxiliary 1 N·m). Ensure coil voltage is 110-120 V at 50/60 Hz and observe IP20 coil protection and IP00 main terminal protection during installation.
AC-1 rated current at 690 V is 200 A at 40 °C, 175 A at 60 °C, and 160 A at 70 °C. AC-3 ratings vary by voltage: at 415 V/60 °C and 440 V/60 °C it is 140 A; at 500 V/60 °C it is 130 A; at 690 V/60 °C it is 80 A; and at 220-240 V/60 °C it remains 140 A. These figures support motor starting and switching with diverse supply conditions.
Yes. With 3P configuration, 75 kW (AC-3) potential at certain voltages and a rated AC-3e equivalence, the device handles motors with moderate to high inertia. Its rated breaking capacity, 8 x Ie AC-3, and 12 x Ie AC-3e making/break conditions, reduce arcing and wear during start/stop cycles. It is well-suited for conveyors, pumps, and other load-heavy equipment in automation lines.
This ABB contactor carries CE and UKCA declarations for European markets and UL/CSA listings for North American use, with RoHS and WEEE compliance as part of ABB EcoSolutions. The product supports installation in compliant control panels and is designed to meet EN safety and electrical standards for motor protection and control equipment.
AF technology improves energy efficiency by reducing coil and switching power losses (18 W per pole in AC-1 operation and 9 W per pole in AC-3). The integrated surge protection minimizes nuisance outages, and the compact AF block design lowers panel space and wiring complexity. Together, these factors reduce energy consumption, simplify maintenance, and shorten payback periods in motor control applications.
