Quick Summary

Block Contactor enables motor control in industrial automation and panel applications. When supply voltage varies, conventional contactors can waste energy or misoperate, but AF technology delivers a wide control voltage range to stabilize operations. This ABB solution complies with IEC/EN 60947-1, IEC/EN 60947-4-1 and UL 60947-4-1, with additional support from EN 50155 and related standards for rail and harsh environments. For panel builders and OEMs, it offers easy wiring, scalable auxiliary contacts, and energy-efficient performance, all in a compact block design. The result is reliable motor control that reduces energy use, simplifies installation, and enhances overall machine uptime.

Product Information

Extended Description

1SFL467063R1422 ABB: The AF146B-30-22-14 is a 3 pole - 1000 V IEC or 600 V UL contactor with pre-mounted auxiliary contacts and standard ferrules, controlling motors up to 75 kW / 400 V AC (AC-3) or 100 hp / 480 V UL and switching power circuits up to 225 A (AC-1) or 200 A UL general use. Thanks to the AF technology, the contactor has a wide control voltage range (250-500 V 50/60 Hz ), managing large control voltage variations, reducing panel energy consumptions and ensuring distinct operations in unstable networks. Furthermore, surge protection is built-in, offering a compact solution. AF contactors have a block type design, can be easily extended with add-on auxiliary contact blocks and an additional wide range of accessories.

FAQs

The ABB Block Contactor supports a coil voltage range of 250 to 500 V for both AC and DC operation. This wide range reduces the need for multiple coil variants, improves reliability in networks with voltage fluctuations, and minimizes control circuit toggling due to supply ripple. It also aids faster panel design by enabling a single part across regions.
The contactor is rated for a main circuit of up to 1000 V with a Rated Operational Current AC-1 of up to 225 A and AC-3 of up to 146 A at typical industrial voltages (e.g., 415–690 V). It features 3 main NO contacts and 2 NO plus 2 NC auxiliary contacts, with ratings varying by voltage and temperature to fit diverse motor loads.
Yes. ABB AF contactors use a block-style design that is easily extended with add-on auxiliary contact blocks. This enables additional NO/NC feedback points for PLC control, status signaling, and interlocks, improving integration with automation architectures while preserving compact panel footprints.
The product complies with IEC/EN 60947-1 and IEC/EN 60947-4-1, UL 60947-4-1 and CSA variants, EN 50155 considerations for rail applications, and regional declarations such as CE, UKCA, and EAC where applicable. This broad certification set supports safe, compliant installation across manufacturing, packaging, and processing industries.
Key factors include leveraging the 5 million mechanical cycles durability and the 300 cycles per hour maximum switching rate to match process demands. The wide control voltage range reduces stock variety, while built-in surge protection and energy-efficient coil consumption lower operating costs. Regular inspection of auxiliary contacts ensures reliable feedback and minimal downtime.
