The AF305-30-22-43 Block Contactor leverages AF technology with built-in surge protection to deliver faster switching and more stable operation, translating into measurable uptime improvements and reduced panel energy consumption. This 3-pole (3P) device uses main circuit bars for robust, low-resistance connections, handling main circuit voltages up to 1000 V and operating currents suitable for AC-3 motor loads up to 305 A at higher voltages, or 375 A in AC-1 configurations, supporting motors up to 160 kW. The 220-240 V control coil at 50/60 Hz enables reliable activation across typical European and North American networks, while the 2 NO auxiliary contacts provide flexible control logic around the main circuit. The unit is designed for easy expansion with add-on auxiliary contact blocks, simplifying future automation upgrades without rewiring. Its compact footprint, protected terminals (IP20 coil, IP00 main), and standardized torque specs (Main Circuit 22–43 N·m) reduce installation time and torque-related failures. In practice, this means lower lifecycle costs, easier maintenance, and improved compliance with industrial safety and energy-efficiency targets. The block design also supports efficient panel layouts, while the ability to operate in harsh environments up to 70 °C and up to 3,000 m altitude without derating ensures reliability in a wide range of facilities. Compatibility with a broad ecosystem of ABB accessories, including 2x auxiliary NO/NC and block-type expansion options, makes retrofits and upgrades straightforward for existing motor control centers. Industry professionals increasingly favor the AF-series for its balance of rugged performance, regulatory alignment (CE, UL/CSA, UKCA), and a clear path to scalable automation.

FAQs
Yes. The AF305-30-22-43 is designed for high-voltage main circuits up to 1000 V and supports AC-3 motor control duty. It uses 3 main NO contacts and 2 auxiliary NO/NC contacts, with main circuit bars for robust connections. Coil voltage is 220–240 V at 50/60 Hz, and it accepts flexible or rigid conductors with appropriate lugs and torque values.
The device provides AC-3 rated current up to 305 A at 690–1000 V depending on temperature, and AC-1 up to 375 A at 1000 V. Rated operating power reaches up to 250 kW at 690 V for AC-3, with a maximum breaking capacity of 4600 A cos phi=0.45 at 440 V and 3800 A at 690 V. Short-time withstand currents reach several kiloamperes for brief pulses.
Ideal for heavy-duty motor control in HVAC, pumping, conveying, and material handling applications, especially where 3P motor loads up to 160 kW are used. Its compact block design, surge protection, and add-on auxiliary contact capability support scalable automation projects across manufacturing, packaging lines, water treatment, and process industries requiring reliable AC-3 and AC-1 operation.
This model is CE declared and UL/CSA listed, with UKCA marking for the UK market. It complies with RoHS and REACH requirements, and ABB provides related declarations. The device carries IP ratings for coil and main terminals (IP20 and IP00 respectively) and meets standard electrical and safety guidelines for industrial installations.
AF technology delivers faster operate times and built-in surge protection, reducing nuisance trips and downtime. Coil consumption is optimized (holding and pull-in values provided for 50/60 Hz operation), contributing to lower control-circuit energy use. The ability to extend with auxiliary contact blocks simplifies future upgrades, lowering maintenance complexity and improving return on investment through reduced wiring changes and faster commissioning.
