Designed for easy extension with add-on auxiliary blocks, it simplifies panel integration and reduces spare parts inventory while delivering consistent performance in demanding environments. Its compact block form and wide voltage range support scalable, energy-efficient automation solutions.
Product Information
Extended Description
1SFL587063R1222 ABB: The AF305B-30-22-12 is a 3 pole - 1000 V IEC or 600 V UL contactor with pre-mounted auxiliary contacts and standard ferrules, controlling motors up to 160 kW / 400 V AC (AC-3) or 250 hp / 480 V UL and switching power circuits up to 500 A (AC-1) or 400 A UL general use. Thanks to the AF technology, the contactor has a wide control voltage range (48-130 V 50/60 Hz and DC), managing large control voltage variations, reducing panel energy consumptions and ensuring distinct operations in unstable networks. Furthermore, surge protection is built-in, offering a compact solution. AF contactors have a block type design, can be easily extended with add-on auxiliary contact blocks and an additional wide range of accessories.

Feature AF technology provides a wide control voltage range (48-130 V AC/DC) that minimizes control voltage fluctuations and reduces panel energy consumption, delivering stable operations in mission-critical conveyors and pumps. Business Impact This translates to lower energy waste and fewer nuisance trips, improving system uptime and total cost of ownership in industrial drives. Application Ideal for OEMs and panel builders needing robust motor control with minimal tuning across varying supply conditions. Feature Built-in surge protection short-circuits voltage spikes from line faults, protecting contactor contacts and downstream equipment. Business Impact Reduces maintenance costs and unplanned downtime, extending motor life in critical applications. Application Suitable for heavy-duty motors in processes where power quality is inconsistent. Feature Pre-mounted auxiliary contacts 2NO/2NC enable straightforward interlocking and signaling without additional wiring. Business Impact Accelerates panel wiring, improves control reliability, and simplifies diagnostics. Application Useful in starter circuits requiring auxiliary feedback for safety interlocks and automation sequences. Feature Rated operational current AC-3 up to 305 A at 415–690 V and AC-1 up to 375 A at 1000 V, plus DC ratings across multiple pole configurations. Business Impact Supports motors up to 160 kW (AC-3) and 250 hp (UL) with strong overload margins, enabling faster line integration. Application Suitable for high-power conveyors, mixers, and pump drives. Feature Compact block design with bars for main circuit, compatible with add-on accessories and standard dim box controls. Business Impact Saves panel space, reduces assembly time, and simplifies future expansion. Application Ideal for space-constrained electrical cabinets in OEM installations. Feature Coil consumption and power loss specifications (holding and pull-in values) support energy-aware control design. Business Impact Lower continuous coil energy usage translates to smaller panel heat load and improved reliability. Application Beneficial for multi-contactor banks in fan arrays and hvac drives. Feature Mechanical durability rated at 5 million cycles with a maximum mechanical switching frequency of 300 cycles/hour. Business Impact Ensures long service life and predictable performance in high-cycle applications. Application Suitable for automated lines with frequent start/stop operations.

FAQs
The AF305B-30-22-12 is a 3P block contactor with pre-mounted auxiliary blocks. Install on a suitable panel, mount using standard DIN rail or surface mounting as specified by ABB, and connect main circuit bars to the rated terminals. Wire the 2NO/2NC auxiliary contacts for signaling or interlocking, observing the 48-130 V control voltage range (AC or DC). Follow the included operating instructions for safe commissioning and ensure correct clearance and torque on all connections.
For AC-3 operation, the contactor handles up to 305 A at voltages around 415–690 V, and 290–305 A across other common high-voltage ranges. For AC-1, it supports up to 375 A at 1000 V, with substantial ratings at lower voltages. UL/CSA general-use ratings are 400 A, with HP ratings up to 300 hp depending on voltage. These specs enable reliable motor control for large compressors, pumps, and fans.
Yes. The AF305B-30-22-12 carries CE declarations and UL/CSA certifications, with RoHS and REACH compliance statements. UKCA and EAC considerations are supported where required by the installation region. This combination helps ensure regulatory adherence for global panels and reduces certification time during project handover.
This 3P contactor is designed for motor control in AC-3 circuits up to 160 kW at 400 V (and up to 250 hp at higher voltages), plus higher-volt UL/CSA references. It supports line-start and motor-drive configurations, including conveyors and pumps, with a 500 A AC-1/400 A UL general-use threshold and add-on auxiliary options for signaling and safety interlocks.
You can expect reduced downtime due to built-in surge protection and reliable operation across variable control voltages, lowering maintenance costs. The device features long mechanical durability (up to 5 million cycles) and energy-efficient coil management, contributing to lower energy use in continuous-operation drives and a favorable return-on-investment over the system life.
