Product Information

Extended Description

3AUA0000201067 ABB: The ACS880 Extension Box is an ACS880-01 wall-mounted drive on a back panel with an electrical box for additional devices. Within the box are line fuses to protect the drive. Optional devices includes a local disconnect switch, control power transformer, as well as ACS880-01 options for fieldbus, in-put/output adapters, special software, etc. The extension box will save cost and simplify installation because it has the input fusing and local disconnect switch that are typically required as part of the installation. It can also provide 120V digital signal interface for stop/start motor control. It is used in a variety of industries include oil and gas, chemical, mining, material handling, pulp and paper, saw mills and cement. Applications include extruders, winches, winders, conveyors, mixers, compressors, pumps and fans. The ACS880 Extension Box is available up to 150 HP in a wall-mountable package.
Integrated input fusing and a dedicated local disconnect in the extension box streamline installation by reducing wiring complexity and panel footprint. This translates into measurable labor savings and faster commissioning for ACS880-01 wall-mounted drives, enabling reliable protection in mid-to-high power applications across oil and gas, chemical, and mining sectors. The back-panel design provides space for additional devices and fuses, simplifying field wiring and improving serviceability—essential for continuous operations on conveyors, extruders, winches, and winders. Optional fieldbus options, IO adapters, and software enhancements future-proof the system, reducing inventory while enabling seamless network integration across plant networks. A 120V digital signal interface supports straightforward stop/start motor control, expanding control topology without adding separate components. The extension box supports up to 150 HP in a wall-mount package, delivering cost savings by removing the need for multiple protection devices and enabling compact, scalable drive solutions. Industry-wide adoption benefits from reduced downtime, easier maintenance, and a modular approach that aligns with modern automation architectures.

FAQs

The ABB ACS880 Extension Box is designed specifically for ACS880-01 wall-mounted drives. It consolidates input fusing and a local disconnect within a compact enclosure, reducing wiring and panel-space requirements. For proper installation, mount on a suitable back panel and observe recommended wiring practices, ensuring the 120 V digital interface is correctly wired to enable stop/start control.
The extension box provides UL-listed safety protection and is specified for up to 52 A current, aligning with a 40 HP motor rating in typical ACS880 configurations. This enables correct sizing of supply fusing and protective devices, reduces the risk of overcurrent faults, and supports safe, compliant motor protection within the drive system.
Industries including oil and gas, chemical, mining, material handling, pulp and paper, saw mills, and cement benefit from the integrated protection and compact footprint. Applications such as extruders, winches, winders, conveyors, mixers, compressors, pumps, and fans gain easier installation, centralized protection, and scalable control in a rugged, wall-mounted format.
The extension box is UL-listed, reinforcing safety and reliability for industrial drives. While the data here highlights UL certification, ABB products in this family are designed for compatibility with common international safety practices, and users should verify any region-specific certifications required for their facility.
ROI is driven by reduced installation time and labor due to consolidated input protection and local disconnect, fewer field devices to manage, and faster commissioning. The ability to support up to 150 HP in a single wall-mount package lowers component count and simplifies maintenance, delivering tangible cost savings and shorter downtime for critical processes.
