Quick Summary

ABB ACS880 Extension Box is a back-panel module that adds input fusing and a local disconnect for ACS880-01 wall-mounted drives. Plant engineers often confront wiring complexity, delayed installs, and higher costs when protective devices aren’t integrated into the drive package. The UL-listed extension box simplifies compliance and reduces field wiring by housing fuses and a local disconnect in a single enclosure. The design supports up to 150 HP and 180 A, making it suitable for heavy-duty conveyors, pumps, mixers, and other load-intensive equipment in industrial settings. Manufactured for sectors like oil and gas, mining, and material handling, it ensures safer start/stop control and easier maintenance. By combining protection, control interfaces, and expansion options, it accelerates commissioning and lowers total cost of ownership, while aligning with standard safety practices.

Product Information

Extended Description

3AUA0000201080 ABB: The ACS880 Extension Box is an ACS880-01 wall-mounted drive on a back panel with an electrical box for additional devices. Within the box are line fuses to protect the drive. Optional devices includes a local disconnect switch, control power transformer, as well as ACS880-01 options for fieldbus, in-put/output adapters, special software, etc. The extension box will save cost and simplify installation because it has the input fusing and local disconnect switch that are typically required as part of the installation. It can also provide 120V digital signal interface for stop/start motor control. It is used in a variety of industries include oil and gas, chemical, mining, material handling, pulp and paper, saw mills and cement. Applications include extruders, winches, winders, conveyors, mixers, compressors, pumps and fans. The ACS880 Extension Box is available up to 150 HP in a wall-mountable package.

FAQs

Begin by isolating power, mount the extension box onto the back panel, and connect the drive input wiring to the integrated fuses. Attach the local disconnect switch as required by local codes, then link control signals to the 120 V digital interface for stop/start control. Verify all connections against the ACS880-01 installation guide and conduct functional tests to confirm safe operation.
The extension box is designed for up to 180 A and 150 HP on ACS880-01 drives. It provides integrated input fusing and a local disconnect, with a 120 V digital signal interface for control. Ensure your upstream supply voltage and circuit protection match the drive requirements and that the enclosure is rated for the environmental conditions of your install.
Yes. The design targets harsh industrial settings and supports high-reliability operation in sectors such as oil and gas, chemical processing, mining, and material handling. The integrated protection and back-panel mounting simplify compliance with safety codes while reducing field wiring, which is beneficial in remote or hazardous locations.
The extension box is UL-listed, providing recognized protection for electrical components and safe operation in industrial environments. When planning deployments, verify regional requirements for CE marking or other local certifications, and ensure installation practices align with UL guidance and your facility’s safety standards.
By combining input fusing, a local disconnect, and optional expansion accessories in a single enclosure, it reduces panel space, minimizes wiring labor, and lowers commissioning time. This translates to lower upfront installation costs and reduced maintenance complexity over the life of the ACS880 drive system, delivering measurable savings in TCO.
