ABB 3AXD50000430031 Motors & Drives - Ultra-low THDi <3%
Part Number: 3AXD50000430031
Quick Summary
ABB 3AXD50000430031 is a LV AC wall-mounted drive designed for water and wastewater pumping applications. It addresses the common pain points of energy waste, harmonic distortion, and complex maintenance in municipal pumping systems. Key certifications and considerations include IP ratings—the standard IP21 enclosure with IP55 flange-mounted variants available—alongside industry targets like CE and SIL in many markets. This combination delivers reliable operation in challenging environments while supporting standards compliance. By integrating advanced filtering and pump-control features, it also reduces total cost of ownership and simplifies integration with existing automation architectures, enabling operators to meet regulatory requirements and improve system reliability.
Product Information
Extended Description
3AXD50000430031 ABB: The ACQ580-31 drives deliver innovative pump features for the water and wastewater industry, securing energy efficient flow of water and wastewater in your pumping solutions. The ultra-low harmonic variant provides ultimate harmonic performance, reaching even less than 3 % THDi, and exceeding the requirements set by low harmonic standards and recommendations. The drive includes an active supply unit and integrated low harmonic line filter, meaning there is no need for external filters, multi-pulse arrangements or special transformers. Other features include output voltage boost and power factor correction. This robust and compact wall-mounted drive has built-in pump application functionality such as sensorless flow calculation, multipump control, level control, soft pipe fill, dry run protection, quick ramps and a solution for keeping the impeller of the pump clean. Usability is further enhanced with the intuitive Hand-Off-Auto control panel, the PC tool Drive composer and an optional Bluetooth=C2=AE control panel. The ultra-low harmonic wall-mounted variant comes in IP21 enclosure as standard. Also, IP55 and flange mounting units are available.

FAQs
Plan for indoor wall mounting with adequate clearance for heat dissipation and cabling. Verify alignment with the IP21 baseline enclosure, ensure compatible power wiring and control interfaces, and use the Hand-Off-Auto panel or Drive Composer for commissioning. Consider space for the integrated filter and the need for any shielded cables in proximity to other equipment.
A THDi below 3% minimizes harmonic distortion, improving power quality and reducing electrical stress on transformers and feeders. This translates to lower energy losses, better regulator stability, reduced maintenance frequency, and improved compliance with grid harmonic limits in municipal pumping networks.
Yes. The drive includes an intuitive Hand-Off-Auto panel and is designed for seamless integration with Drive Composer PC tool. An optional Bluetooth control panel enhances remote monitoring and configuration, supporting smooth migration and scalable automation in existing ABB ecosystems.
The product provides IP21 standard protection with IP55 flange-mount options, addressing enclosure and environmental requirements. While IP ratings are explicit, CE and SIL Certifications are common targets in the sector; confirm your project specifications with the supplier to ensure alignment with regional regulatory and safety standards.
ROI benefits come from energy savings due to improved efficiency and reduced harmonic losses, plus lower maintenance thanks to built-in protections like dry run and impeller cleaning. Integrated filtering reduces external hardware costs, while quicker commissioning lowers commissioning time and plant downtime, delivering a compelling business case for municipal and industrial pumping projects.
